Getting American Idol tickets is not as hard as getting inside once you have tickets. If you've been to a Hollywood television show, you know what to expect. American Idol is one of the hardest shows to get into.

First of all, all of the contestants get tickets for their family members and friends.
Next tickets are held and distributed to celebrities and VIP's.
Last the seats are filled with the fans and the general public if you are lucky enough to get a stand by ticket.

If your ticket is not laminated, it's a stand by ticket. Stand by tickets are used to "fill" the seats of VIP's, friends and family, and celebrities that didn't show up. Have you ever seen an empty seat on TV? That's because it's filled with someone with a stand by ticket.

What happens once you get in?
With a stand by ticket, you are subject to removal at anytime if a VIP or celebrity shows up with an official ticket and needs your seat.

How are people seated?
The audience is seated and filled based on filming needs. Basically people are seated based on a number of factors (age, sex, appearance, etc.) to balance the audience.

When should I line up if I have tickets?
If you have a stand by ticket, get in line at least 6 hours before the stated line up time on the ticket. Seating is limited and on a first come first serve basis after all of the VIP's and celebrities are seated. A majority of people with stand by tickets don't get in and unfortunately you won't know this until shortly before filming and you may have waited several hours for nothing.

If you want to try to obtain stand by tickets, click on the link below and complete the request form for "On Camera Audiences" and good luck getting and staying inside.

Besides not knowing if you'll get in, the actual show is a great experience especially since the venue is small and only holds several hundred people. Compare this to concerts with several thousand people and you are usually seated far away.
